Exposure: S-II,,Ha,O-III 360m:330m:210m 12 x 1800s S-II, 11 x 1800s Ha & 7 x 1800s O-III
Processing: CCDSoftV5 for image acquisition, CCDStack for Image calibration, Astrodon Narrowband filters (25 flats each Ha, OIII, SII, Bias subtracted and Sigma Clip combined, 60 bias frames Sigma Clip combined, 15 1800s darks Sigma Clip combined), alignment, normalization, FITS files creation. Photoshop CS2 for color mapping and jpg conversion. CCDAutoPilot3 used to collect data over multiple nights.
Conditions: Average, Mag 3-4 Skies)
Scope: RCOS 16" Truss
Camera: SBIG STL-6303, -15°
Comments: This effort was taken over 5 nights in which 3 of the nights only produced 1 image before the clouds ended the session. My first attempt at mapped color and narrowband images showed me that 20 min exposures were not enough to get good S/N on the S-II and O-III filters. I changed to 30 min exposures for this image and the data was much better. I had a windy night for the last session and ended up losing most of the O-III that night so I will probably add some more O-III as soon as it clears. Processing narrowband if pretty straight forward and I found that using the procedure on the NSAS website where FITS Liberator is found is a very good process to follow. My 8 position filter wheel for the STL-6303 will be shipped next week 09/28/06 and then I will be able to have all my filters available for any type of imaging I need to do.
